COVID-19 Updates from TLC Cat Clinic

A COVID-19 Update from TLC Cat Clinic

We hope everyone is happy and healthy in these interesting and challenging times. It's been almost 4 months since we made the tough decision to go exclusively curbside with our appointments. Know that we've missed seeing each of you in person. It's not the same communicating via phone only, but we are committed to doing our part to slow the spread of COVID-19. It's also been a while since we communicated with you, so we want to give a clinic update.

We are continuing curbside service for you and your loved feline family for the foreseeable future. Our current workflow and protocols have kept our team healthy and our business operational. Our primary objective throughout this pandemic has been the safety of our team, clients and our patients. We are working on ways to see you in person again, but until that time, we appreciate all your understanding and patience with our curbside service. We are doing our absolute best to provide the same high quality and timely care for each and every kitty cat we see.

As a result of the pandemic, our hospital is experiencing an unprecedented amount of calls, emails and appointments. We are doing everything we can to accommodate as many pets each day without compromising our standard of care. Please consider the following when you contact us:

  • Routine exams such as vaccination / wellness appointments are booking out 2 or more weeks.
  • Surgical appointments (such as spays, neuters, and dentals) are booking out over 4 weeks in advance.
  • We have increased the reserved appointment slots in our schedule for sick pets. However, these spots are filling up almost immediately in the morning. There is a chance we may not be able to accommodate your pet for an illness on the same day (or even the next day).
  • We are accepting more drop-off appointments than normal. However, there is a limit that we can effectively accept and treat each day. Unfortunately, we may need to refer you to a local emergency clinic for more immediate care to ensure the best possible outcome for your furry friend.
  • With that said, emergency clinics are also experiencing unprecedented volume. They may not have availability for your loving cat either.
  • Therefore, please don't wait until your loved one's life is at risk to make an appointment for a problem. If you don't need an immediate appointment, we can accommodate you in a few days.
  • We are working hard to keep our staff safe and healthy, as their absence results in less staffing and consequently less flexibility with our appointment schedule.
  • Please be kind to our team as they are doing their best to accommodate you and your feline whenever possible. If we say we don't have room to see you, it means we have already overbooked our schedule for that day.

Please know that this has been an industry-wide problem. Most other small animal hospitals in the Twin Cities are struggling with appointment availability, and wait times at the local emergency clinic can be several hours or more. In addition, one of the local emergency clinics has been closed for several months due to COVID-19 and subsequent staffing issues, which has put strain on all other emergency facilities.

We truly appreciate all your understanding and patience as we face this pandemic together. You and your feline family member(s) are the purpose and drive behind our motto: Compassionate Care for Your Feline Family.

Please don't hesitate to contact our clinic by phone or email if you have any questions or concerns. We are always happy to help.

Thank you,

Dr. Shea and the TLC Team
